Collectible Toys – Pass Them Down From Generation to Generation
Some people are natural-born collectors and will collect any and everything. When thinking of things to collect, don’t forget collectible toys. You never know what type of toy is going to be popular from year to year.
For example the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls from years ago are very valuable today if kept in their original box and kept in pristine shape. But when they first came out who would ever know they would be that popular. I think people figured it out pretty quickly though because I remember I was working at night at that time and my coworkers would leave work and head over to the mall next door when they heard they were going to put out some new Cabbage Patch Dolls. As a matter of fact, what made me think of it was that I was in Target the other day and saw they had some out. I hadn’t seen any in quite some time so maybe they are gaining in popularity again. I might have to pick up one of them just in case. If you think something might one day become collectible you should just go ahead and get one and save it. You never know.
Some of the old Barbies are very valuable now if they are in excellent condition. Even some of them that are in kind of bad condition, depending on which one it is, could be worth quite a bit of money. You just really never know what is going to end up being valuable in later years. Some of the things that come out now saying they are collectible toys may in fact not ever be worth anything more than what you paid for it.
I collect Painted Ponies and I have 30 or 40 of them. I just like them, I probably will never sell them, but I keep them nice and have all the boxes. They are around 30 dollars or so each to buy, and one of them right now is selling for more than 700 dollars at one site for a first edition. I happen to have that first edition but I don’t plan to sell it. It’s just kind of cool to look on the sites and see what things are selling for. But I would have never thought that particular pony would be very popular. He is not my favorite and in fact was given to me by my mom. All the ones I picked out myself are not worth much more than their original price.
So take a look around at some of the popular toys these days and see what you think might one day become one of the most collectible toys. And then buy one or two of them to keep for later.
