Toys for Christmas – Do You Give Away Your Children’s Old Toys to Make Room for the New?

Well the season is upon us, or nearly. It’s that time of the year to start thinking about making a list and checking it twice and all that. Of course I have been seeing Christmas decorations in stores for months now (which is crazy by the way). So you know that, most likely, your kids will get a lot of new toys for Christmas. And they probably already have a room full of toys they are tired of or not playing with. What do you do with all those old toys? Give them away? Throw them away? Have a garage sale?

I suggest you do none of the above. Instead, if you can find the space, take all the toys your child is not playing with and put them in a storage box. Then place the box somewhere out of the way, either the attic, the basement, your storage shed, or a storage building of some type.

You may think that it would be much easier to give them away to the neighbor kid or even just toss them into the trash. After all, your kids are getting brand new toys for Christmas. The thing is, somewhere down the road, someone is going to be thrilled with these boxes of old toys, whether it’s your child when he or she is grown up with their own child, or maybe it will be you later on when your child has gone off to college or started their own life on their own.

As the years go by one thing I have noticed is that they don’t make toys like they used to, and I very much regret that I don’t any longer own the toys that I had as a young child. I’d just love to have them as a collection or to hand down to my own child’s children when the time comes. I don’t even know what happened to all my toys I used to play with. I assume my mom threw them out or they just got lost over the years, moving from one place to the other. Things tend to do that. And some of them just aren’t made anymore.

Now you may be able to find them again on an auction site or maybe a garage sale, but why put yourself through that when you could just save them? After all, these old toys may actually be worth some money one of these days! So when thinking about all the new toys for Christmas, remember the old ones as well and put them somewhere safe to be enjoyed again another day.
