Are your kids tired of having the same toys as everyone else on the block? Or do you just want to buy them something that’s not going to be found in every discount store in town. Sometimes you just want to buy something totally different and special for your child’s birthday, Christmas, or other special occasion. Maybe they have not asked for anything in particular and you need some ideas for some unique toys you can purchase. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

If you look around online you can find artists who actually hand carve wooden toys for kids. These might include trains, blocks, cars, rocking horses, animal figures, puzzles, and other toys as well as toy boxes too. These toys can last you a lifetime with proper care and can be passed down from generation to generation. Most artisans produce high quality and safe wooden toys for children that are easy for them to hold and will have rounded edges. The benefit of a toy such as this is it is not electronic, doesn’t need batteries, and will engage your child’s imagination.

Another unique type of toy is a handmade rag doll. I have seen such things offered at local craft and art festivals and they are simply beautiful. Be sure to get one that is meant for actual use and not just for display. Again, this is a toy that can be a family heirloom.

How about one of the stores that allows kids to come in and create their own teddy bear? These are all unique and children love these toys. It is especially fun for them because they have participated in the making of the toy. I find children will take better care of a toy they helped to create themselves.

You might hire someone to build your child a playhouse or you can even build it yourself. Tree houses are also great if you have a nice big oak tree in your yard. I used to visit my grandmother in the summers and she had a tree house in her yard. My cousin and I had so many hours of fun playing in it. Those are definitely special memories.

And on a smaller scale you can buy or have someone build for your child a miniature dollhouse.
