Vintage Toys – Do You Look for Vintage Toys to Remember Your Childhood?

Yes this site is about learning toys for kids, but in the process of researching I keep running across some of classic old vintage toys I played with as a kid. What fun they were as I remember back. Not something I normally really think much about but every now and again I see a picture of one or hear someone talking about them and it’s fun to remember.

Of course I mentioned in another post about the Johnny West sets I used to play with for hours and hours that consisted of the horse and cowboy/cowgirl figures. Those are definitely my favorite toys of all time. Nothing can beat them in my mind, I had more fun with them than all the video games I’ve ever played with.

A lot of girls will remember their Barbies. I had some Barbies but they were not my favorite toys. I did play with them occasionally but I would usually have them riding my plastic horses which was hard because they weren’t built to sit on a horse. Maybe side saddle, haha.

I also had all the usual things like a Slinky, Silly Putty, Play Dough, Lite Brite, and so forth. And what was that little wheel thing called….I must look that up….oh yes, Wheelo, or as it seems to officially be….Whee-Lo. It was this little magnetic spinning toy, I’m sure you will remember when you see it. For some reason that was one of the things my dad liked to buy for me, so I almost always had one around. They were fun though. And it seems they still make them which is neat.

Also remember the Spirograph? Where you would place your pen in a hole inside of a little wheel and then that wheel turned inside a bigger one to make designs on paper. Those were fun. They still sell those too but they seem to have some different names like Magic Spin Art and there is one called Doodle Doug which is really cute for the little kids.

These types of vintage toys are so much nicer for the small kids than the video games and computer games. I am not saying kids should not ever play with the electronic toys, but it would be such a shame if they never got a chance to play with classic toys like these.
